Does anyone know what the nature of the incompatibility between early iPod/iPhone accessories and the iPhone 3G is? Is there any harm in using universal connector accessories with an item for which it wasn't made?
I recently plugged my iPhone 3G into the dock from my 3rd Generation iPod (through USB, of course). I am immediately shown the message:
"This accessory is not made to work with iPhone
Would you like to turn on Airplane Mode to reduce audio interference? You will not be able to make or receive calls."
I have selected "No" and the phone synced, charged, and updated without a hitch. It seems like data and charging connections are not affected, despite the fact that the dock wasn't designed to work with the phone. Also, the dock doesn't appear to interfere with the phone's ability to make or receive calls (did a few tests there). I'm wondering if there are any potentially negative consequences for using the iPod dock with the iPhone (especially for syncing).
