Last week Apple replaced my 3G replaced because of a broken home button. My new 3G has the odd behavior of showing me a dim screen and taking up to 5 minutes before brightening up. Additionally the screen went black yesterday when I tried to launch the phone. After turning black the home button stopped working. I pressed the power key to shut it down but the screen didn't respond to my touch. I got 2 calls in this state and when they came in the screen looked normal but was not responsive so I couldn't answer the calls. When they ended the screen went black again but with the cellular signal line at the top of the black screen visible. I also heard the message beep but the screen was still black. I was in the car so I did a reset by holding the home button and the power button at the same time. This rebooted the iPhone and brought the operation back to normal.
So is this just a fluke or do I need to worry? I did a forced restore when I first got the 3G then restored from backup. My last 3G with the broken home button worked fine so software didn't seem to be an issue.
Anyone have any thoughts?
