Avoiding erasing media files with a new ...

Hello. I've had my iphone for six months and I can't really live without it.

I've got a problem, though, trying to manually add some music to it. I recently formatted my hard drive and reinstalled itunes. When I try to change the setting to manually manage music and videos I get a window telling me I can have my iphone synced to only one itunes library. Thinking that really doesn't matter since I've always manually done it, and given options to either erase and sync or cancel, I hit cancel. This just leaves me where I started--unable to even access my music and videos through itunes. It appears there's no way to get around this without deleting everything currently on my iphone... all because of a function I've never needed or used.

So, my question is, how can I bypass this syncing issue and leave my iphone unchanged?
