I, like many many many other people, have been following (and contributing) the problems reported with the 3.1.1/3.1.2 update including possible fixes, etc.
I'm still on 3.0 on my 3G phone and the only negative that I experienced was the short battery life. I agree with many that we shouldn't have to disable built in features - I view that as a "work around" and not a fix (with the optimism that Apple will fix the problem).
Anyway - I had two questions:
1. Has anyone just done a complete reset/format of their iPhone and then just did a 3.1.2 install without re-installing any additional apps? In other words just running the iPhone stock and see what performance is like?
More than a few people have made claims/theories that the battery is just too small and underpowered. If that is the case then one way to prove this is to start fresh with no additional apps.
My company not only develops hardware but also software. In our QA and reliability testing we only test new releases and updates with a stock configuration - IOW, we can't be responsible for any adverse effects a third party app may have on our software (or hardware); this is pretty much common practice with any hardware and software company.
That being said, I have not found a person who have just done that; did a complete reset followed by just installing 3.1.1 or 3.1.2 and nothing else.
I have seen people who have done the above and then followed it up with a restore or reinstallation of their apps.
2. I have seen a few times in the forums where people have said that they've down graded themselves back from 3.1.x to 3.0. It was my understanding that this was not possible. If this is possible can someone please describe to me how?
If it is possible to downgrade from 3.1.1 or 3.1.2 back to 3.0 then I will attempt what I asked in question #1 and report my findings.
TIA!
