I have the current Mac OS X 10.6 and iTunes 9.0, went to update my iPhone 3G to 3.1 and now my phone is useless. Tried all the tips on tech support with no luck. iPhone stays in recovery mode. I get error codes 2006, 1611, and 26 during different attempts to recover and restore.
Any suggestions?

Just loaded 3.1 and my battery won't recharge. Phone getting warm. Phone just 1 year old. Is my battery toast or did the 3.1 cause this?

My iphone 3G seems to have taken the 3.1 upgrade with only one problem. I can no longer get a 3G network connection, only EDGE. With previous versions of the iphone software, I got a very good 3G connection in my area. Any one else experiencing this?

Hi, I just got an iphone and since it was preowned and the previous owner's information was still in it I decided to do restore. The phone is on but its alternating between a dark blank screen and a black screen with the apple logo and a processing circle. Is this normal? How long does a restore take? Hi
My iphone 3G is not ringing and I can not get it to ring again.
I've done everything short of a Restore. All the settings are
normal. I hadn't had any new software or even changed any
settings. Really the only thing out of my norm was turning off
the phone for few days and removing the sim so I can copy
my contact list off my old cell. That's the only thing I can think of.
Any input would be appreciated.

iPhone backlight does not light up when ...
I have recently began having a problem with my backlight. When a call comes in sometimes the backlight does not light (if you shine a bright light at it you can see the incoming call). You can still answer the phone but cannot see the incoming call. Once you answer it the backlight comes on. I disabled the auto brightness feature thinking maybe this was it but it still randomly does it. Anyone have a suggestion?

3.1 WIFI Issues ...
Any one having problems with WIFI after upgrading to 3.1... I've never had any issue with mine but after the upgrade it cant see any WIFI networks, I've tried restoring and tried it before and after it did restore my data back on and it still doesn't work.

I know a big deal breaker for alot of people on the Iphone is the lack of a physical keyboard. I ran across this today while looking at Iphone news :

3.1 weird drop outs when in mail ...
Hi all, ever since I upgraded my iPhone to 3.1 I have had a problem with my mail. When I am in mail it will unexpectedly close down and return to the home screen from anywhere between 5 and 10 seconds. I am also unable to delete mail, that is they reappear when I go back into mail. It's very weird. Is anyone else having or has had a similar issue or know of the problem? Thanks.

Hi, since downloading the latest Apple update, my phone has blanked out a couple of times, and it has never done that before with any other updates. I have 3G iphone.
If it happens again, I want to remove all data from the iphone and start again. I know this is possible through Settings, but I have a few queries please if anyone can help me.
1. Do I have to delete emails, sms, photos etc etc. before clearing all data.
2. When its brought back to factory restoration, I dont want to put the backup on it, because I'll be back where I started with the same problems re the new update, so, therefore, do I create a new account, and if so, do I need a credit card or can I use a voucher to open a new account.

"Can not write to drive" - repeated ...

I have an iPhone 3G, running, in the past, Vista and now Win7 RC. What happens is that whenever I go to synch, it gives me some error about not being able to write to the drive. The first time this happened, I took it to the local Apple store and they just reset it, and I was able to write everything back to the phone.... the next time I went to update/backup, I got the same error.
The phone otherwise works perfectly fine. Windows and iTunes recognize it. There is no malfunction, I can write things to the iphone drive... but iTunes won't update it with 3.1 or backup any data.
I suppose I could find some way to reset it, but I'd be in the same boat in a week. The drive obviously works. I've tried different cables and USB ports.

Battery life Abysmal after upgrading to ...
So after upgrading to OS 3.1 I have noticed a DRAMATIC decrease in battery life. In the past I have been able to charge my iPhone overnight and then use it all day and have around 30-40% battery life left at the end of the day with average usage (texting, a few phone calls, some youtube videos and some games during boring classes). After the upgrade to 3.1 the battery will die in around 3-4 hours after a full charge without any use. I noticed it the first day when after the update and a complete charge I went to work, left the phone on standby in my locker and came back to find it completely dead after a 4 hour shift. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this? I have already deleted all the new apps I downloaded in the last week even before the update and I have done a full restore with no success.

Contacts not syncing after restore ...
I wiped my mac for Snow Leopard, and had it backed up with Time Capsule. I did not move the time capsule backup back on the mac b/c I didn't want most of the stuff on my mac anymore since it was likely slowing down my mac anyway.
I then got a new iphone 3G due to problems with the sleep/wake button and now I can't get my contacts to be synced...or for that matter--found anywhere. I have no numbers in my phone, and also, I don't have anyone in my mail (through gmail) to compose messages to.
Where can I locate the contacts from my time machine and how can I restore my phone to its formal glory?!

I have a Buffalo NAS and, prior to upgrading to iPhone 3.1, I was always able to stream Audio (MP3) to my iPhone using Safari. Since upgrading the iPhone's Quicktime tries to play the Audio files as a Video and fails. When I select the audio file in the browser, Quicktime starts and says "Loading Video". After 1 or 2 seconds it then says "This movie could not be played".
Why? It is a .mp3 file. Is there a config setting to change Quicktime's behavior?

trouble making calls after 3.1 update ...
Anyone else having trouble making phone calls after the 3.1 update? I keep trying to make a call and it says calling but nothing happens. The only way I can get a call to go through is to turn off phone and restart it. But even turning the phone off has become weird as half way through the shut down process it starts flashing the main screen with the clock and my background pic (not the home screen). Also after charging my battery it shows only half charged until I restart the phone. Once restarted everything seems to work fine... for awhile, then I'm back to the same issue.

What is the iphone configuration utility? this application appeared in my programs menu after the itunes 9 upgrade but when I try to open it a box with a load of error reporting appeared. I am supposed to be able to open this utility? and what it is for? thanks for any explanations.

I had the original iPhone and then got the iPhone 3G. At no time have the apps synched and I wondered if anyone knows of a solution. I've done a search with the key terms and it appears others have the same problem but no one has a solution.
Any suggestions welcome.

I plugged my iPhone 3G into my laptop today to charge it, as the battery was extremely low and for some reason, it's not being recognised by my computer at all, and it's not charging at all.
I've tried plugging it into a powerpoint in the wall as well, and it still doesn't charge.
I plugged my iPod into my computer with the same USB cable, and it worked fine.
If I hold in the power button at the top, the battery picture comes up with a tiny bit of red in it and the power cable -

Since installing OS 3.1 I get the accessory not supported and asking to switch to airplane mode when I dock on my iHome model IP99G. Anyone else experiencing this and have any ideas to why OS 3.1 would of started making this happen?

So I own two Sony items which are compatible with iPhone 3G.
One is a Sony CD Boombox with iPod dock (Sony ZS-S2IP) another is a Sony Alarm Clock with iPhone dock (sony ICF-ClipMK2). Both of these had worked with my iPhone 3G. When plugging the iPhone onto the dock it got the inevitable "this accessory is not made to work with iPhone..." warning message, but THEY DID WORK nonetheless. Remote control, charging ability, playing music over the speakers, they fully worked.
NOW, after (very stupidly) upgrading to 3.1 firmware - NEITHER WORK. No charging, nothing. I get the "no compatible message" but they don't work.
So be warned, do not upgrade to 3.1 if you own these devices and still want them to work with an iPhone 3G.

through me dropping my phone, i have small cracks in the top by the sleep button.
This is, i hope, causing the sleep button not to work properly. It will work if i squeeze the top rh corner though.
Also there is dust and dirt on the inside of the screen, i guess from where the case is cracked.
do i send it in to get it repaired? Im 99.99% sure its not under warranty (6 month isn't?)
How much ROUGHLY do people think this will cost?
Or do i just go and buy a new 3gs.
i will only buy a new 3gs if the repair cost is more or very close to the price of a new phone.

Sync Problems ...
Since downloading 3.01 I've had sync problems. When I add information on my iPhone Contacts it never gets to my laptop. When I add information to my Address Book it never gets to my Laptop. I didn't notice it at first but now I'm concerned that if I reset the phone I will lose a lot of info. I have my preference set to sync with Mobile Me. Where do I start. I have over 1500 contacts and all of them are important. -John

I have a friend that tried to update their iphone through itunes. However, they were running verison 8, so they could not update. During the process, their contacts were removed from the phone. I looked on their comptuer and there is a folder under docs and settings\user\application data\apple computer\logs\crash reporter\mobile device. I tried to update itunes, but the quick time installaion was corrupted. After a few hours, i was finally able to get the old version of itunes and quicktime removed and itunes 9 installed.
When i go into itunes and devices, the list is no longer there showing backups. I checked the app data folder, and all of the devices are still there. How do i get the new install of itunes to recognise the backups/folders that the old version made? Or is there a way I can try to recover data from folder?

Sofware update that never ends ...
I just got my Airbook back from the Genius Bar--I tried to install Snow Leopard and the installation failed three times and then my computer got corrupted. Anyway, I plugged my iPhone into my Airbook and I checked for software updates. New software was available for the iPhone so I tried to download that failed because it said I unplugged the device, which I didn't. I checked to make sure everything was plugged in tightly and tried again. Now the software update has been going on for more than an hour. I don't want to disconnect my phone but I have a feeling this update is hung up. I turned my settings for my computer not to fall asleep so the download is not interrupted. I can't call Apple support because my phone is not working. Is there someone I can live chat with?

Youtube Runs slow or not at all !! ...
I love my iphone but the one thing that I really like it for, youtube, runs really poorly. From the origonal installed app, the videos load VERY slowly or a box pops up that says "Video Format not supported"... whats up with that? I have tried turning the wi-fi off and using 3g and using different, better wi-fi connections but all the videos run to slow to warrant me even using the program.

Hi,
I have my iPhone docked to the pc all the time when i am at home, and hoped that someone in here could help me finding a way to mute the PC when i recieve a call on my docked iPhone.
I have now used quite some time looking around this forum and also a lot searching on Google, but still i haven't found anything.
Is i really the only one who would like such a function, or is it existing?

Since upgrading to 3.1 I also noticed the number of photos in the Camera Roll is seldom correct. It would display 31 when I have only 7 etc... somehow deleting a photo sometimes corrects the counter. But after adding a few new pix, get screwed up again.

I have an unusual problem that just started on my iphone. I have no back button on my safari browser. When I go to a website, such as cnn, just for example. If I click on one of the stories I can't get back to the home page, there is no back button. I called support and they were mystified. They had me restore the phone and that still did not work. anyone encounter this or have any ideas?

No USB Audio in my BMW after 3.0 upgrade ...
I upgraded my iPhone to 3.0 and now it is not recognized as an "external audio device" by the iDrive in my BMW any more. Prior to the upgrade, as soon as the phone was clicked into the cradle in the car, the play-lists were available on the screen. Please, Apple, come out with a patch to make the USB audio work again. Or let me know how to downgrade from 3.0 - as being able to play music is more important to me than cut and paste! Thanks.

3.1 Update Problem - Hangs ...
Hi ... I updated tonight to Itunes 9 successfully and tried to update my 3g to v3.1 firmware. After more than an hour with the update running and showing no progress, I disconnected, rebooted the phone and tried to restore.
Restore has been running for more than an hour and again showing no progress. No error message .. just running and running and no progress showing on the phone.
Anyone else having the same problem. Seems to be taking a rediculous long time/ Any chance if I just let it run that it will complete.

BT Audio from Memo app, but not iPod? ...
Hi,
I have an Audi A3 which is paired with my iPhone 3G (3.01).
Phone calls, address book etc all ok.
I want to be able to play my iPod music through the stereo over bluetooth but I do not get the option to route the audio through (there is only the "Speaker" button for the iPhones internal speaker, not the picture of a a speaker with the bluetooth logo).
I'm guessing you are going to say that the car does not support streaming audio, BUT - if I go into the Voice Memo's app I can playback my memos and I DO get the button to play through my car bluetooth. When I select the Audi Bluetooth system, my car stereo lights up with "Phone" and plays the memo throught the car stereo!
My question therefore is if I can play Voice Memo's, why cant I play music?

I have an Audi A3 which is paired with my iPhone 3G (3.01).
Phone calls, address book etc all ok.
I want to be able to play my iPod music through the stereo over bluetooth but I do not get the option to route the audio through (there is only the "Speaker" button for the iPhones internal speaker, not the picture of a a speaker with the bluetooth logo).
I'm guessing you are going to say that the car does not support streaming audio, BUT - if I go into the Voice Memo's app I can playback my memos and I DO get the button to play through my car bluetooth. When I select the Audi Bluetooth system, my car stereo lights up with "Phone" and plays the memo throught the car stereo!
My question therefore is if I can play Voice Memo's, why cant I play music?

3.1 killed 3G - unable to restore ...
After installing iTunes 9 and trying to update to 3.1, my 5 week old iPhone 3G has now been dead for over 6 hours and I'm unable to revive it even after trying workarounds mentioned on the boards!

iPod app crashes after 3.1 update ...
I just updated to 3.1 and now the iPod app crashes whenever I try to make a Genius playlist. I do this every day so understandably I would like a solution. In the log, it points to low memory as the cause. I don't have much stuff running, I have Wi-Fi turned off even. Please assist me. Thanks in advance.

3.1 WIFI Issues ...
Any one having problems with WIFI after upgrading to 3.1... I've never had any issue with mine but after the upgrade it cant see any WIFI networks, I've tried restoring and tried it before and after it did restore my data back on and it still doesn't work.

Completely unresponsive iPhone 3g, ...
So I have seen a lot of posts on people's 3g shutting down, but I have yet to find this exact behavior elsewhere although it happened to both my wife's and my iPhone.
I took my phone off the charging cradle (with full charge) last night, made a phone call, locked it and put it in my pocket. 10 min later, I was going to make another call and the phone was completely unresponsive. It would not even respond to a hard reset. I plugged it into my MacBookPro and the computer did not even recognize it and the phone would not charge, anything. I had a busy night so I set the phone aside and got back to it several hours later. When I did the phone was still unresponsive and it was warm as if it had been in heavy use. I then plugged it into the computer again and went to bed. Shortly after I woke up this morning (8 hours later) the phone turned on, completely dead and began charging. The phone now seems fine.
So if you have the behavior above, put it on the sync cradle and walk away for 12 hours or so and it might come back. This has happened once before to my wife's iPhone and as yet we have gotten no response from Apple as to what might be causing it. Right after my phone died I scheduled a call from Apple for this afternoon so if I get any solutions or information I'll post it here later today.

Since updateing iPhone an iTunes on launch night, my 3G iPhone is freezing on the black screen a couple of times a day. It sits on my desk at work with nothing touching it as I use it as an iPod through the day. It is fully charged and Push etc are turned off.

iPhone backlight does not light up when ...
I have recently began having a problem with my backlight. When a call comes in sometimes the backlight does not light (if you shine a bright light at it you can see the incoming call). You can still answer the phone but cannot see the incoming call. Once you answer it the backlight comes on. I disabled the auto brightness feature thinking maybe this was it but it still randomly does it. Anyone have a suggestion?

Add another iPhone 3G shut down issue ...
3.01 worked for a week. Then I started noticing the battery empty within a few hours. Now I am getting constant lockups/shutdowns. Hard resets occasionally work when then want to. I am scheduled to take it in to Apple on Monday. Will post the results.

After installing the 3.1 I get this very annoying message, even though I have not installed additional accessories. I have reset, restored etc. (several times) to no avail. The Apple tech had me restore from another computer, as a new phone, but this did not get rid of the message. Any ideas?

I've updated my iphone 3g to the new 3.1 and after that i simple could not send or receive MMS! It appears "message fail"!
I've already call to vodafone portugal and they sayed that it could be fixed if i simple do a restore... well, i've done it and nothing! they sayed that it could be a bug that for some reason deletes a system file...
i don't really care about the problem! i just want my iphone working as it used to work before! could anyone help me??

I have the Philips Power2Go SCE4430 Rechargeable power pack and the problem is the following:
if my iPhone is charged at about 70% or higher the charge pack works fine. But if the phone is at a lower charge then the after the pack is connected it starts charging for about 10 seconds and then switches to usb connected mode.
The pack seems to charge all other devices fine as well as the phone is charged from my laptop or the ac socket fine as well.

I went trough some texts describing how people are unhappy with 3.1 (crashes, bugs , etc) - Isn't because they put 3.1 update on top of Jailbroken 3.0.1? Just a guess but clean install of 3.1 don't make me any harm

After upgrading iPhone to 3.1, 2 cd compilations with 17 tracks each are now showing 17 separate songs all with Contemporary Mix 1 as Album artist.

My Simple (but inelegant) solution to ...
Like many here the 3.1 update has been crashing my phone 7-10 times daily and I've read through most of the monster thread but nothing REALLY works. I think I may have one that does though.
I noticed that it has NEVER happened while I was doing something with the phone, it only crashes when it goes to sleep but putting it at constant "on" (no locking) ***** the batt dry fast AND makes for a lot of "accidental button presses".
So here's my solution: Have the ipod playing something ALL THE TIME. Turn the volume to zero if you don't really want to listen to it but keep it playing. Once its playing go to the home screen and use the phone as normal (You can lock it it will not crash). So far batt life obviously takes a hit (not as much as having the backlight on though) but I have had ZERO crashes so far! Once the music stopped playing by itself (probably a crash) BUT it didnt put the phone in a coma! I just pressed play again and it was fine.
This solution works for me, please tell me if it works for you too. Let's hope Apple fixes this soon though, this is just terrible!

My daughter's iPhone suddenly stopped working.
We thought the battery had died so we tried charging it over night. The next morning it was still dead. We tried a different charger thinking maybe the charger was bad, but still nothing. We tried plugging it into the computer, outlet, everything, and nothing works. We tried different cords, nothing.
The phone is completely black. If you connect it to the computer (or plug it into the wall) nothing happens. Nothing lights up or displays on the screen and neither the computer nor iTunes sees the phone. Hard reset does not work either. The phone was still under warranty, but it got a little bit of water on it a long time ago, and they will not warranty it. It has worked fine for months since it got a little water on it. Only one of the water sensors shows it got wet. It had been working fine until it suddenly just died.
To make matters worse, I updated the software on my iPhone and now it is useless. It is stuck in recovery mode and errors out every time I try to restore it. So now we have two iPhones that are permanently in paper weight mode. I bought my daughter a new cell phone (non-Apple) and ironically now it would be nice if I could get her old iPhone working to use as a backup while mine is dead.
Does anyone know anyway to fix this phone??? Or the other one...

My iPhone 3g got attacked by my friends dog, the body and screen are scratched but the phone works perfectly fine, is there any way i can bring it in and get a refurbished one. I just upgraded to 3.1 and upgraded all my apps, and none of them, except the default iPhone apps work. They'll start and then go back to the home screen. I've tried powering the iPhone off and doing a reset, but still nothing helps. Does anyone else have the same problem?

Hello everyone, thanks for at least reading this post. I'm having a heck of a time trying to figure out whats going on with my iPhone 3G. I bought mine from my brother for $100 after he bought his 3GS a few weeks ago. He sold it to me without the sim card, which I don't care about because I'm only planning on using it as an iPod Touch. Well about 3 days ago, I updated the iPhone to 3.1 so that I could download some of the newer apps. As soon as I finished updating the phone, the screen showed a data cable at the bottom of the screen leading to the iTunes logo (of course telling me to connect the phone to my itunes), and the phone became locked with a slider lock which only allowed me to slide in order to make an emergency call. There was also a message that said "please insert a valid sim without a pinlock" and I also received a message in my iTunes that says the iPhone couldnt be connected properly because of a password protection. Well like I said, I don't have a sim card, nor did the iPhone even prompt me with any sort of key pad in order to enter my passcode. So I took my brothers advice and tried to perform a quick system restore. Now the message about inserting a valid sim card is gone along with the slider, but now the screen is frozen with the picture of the data cable leading to the iTunes logo. I've been able to power the phone on and off multiple times, so I know its not completely frozen. I've been able to have the device recognized in my iTunes but only as "iPhone" instead of the usual "corey's ipod", and I have also been able to start restoring the device but shortly after starting the restore process, an error occurs usually #1604 or #2002 stating that the restore process could not be completed due to one of these mysterious errors.
Ive read a few different forums and tech sites, and alot of people have had similar problems, and I have tried to follow their instructions on how they fixed it, but nothing has worked at all.
its now almost a quarter past 4 a.m. and I have been trying to research this since 8p.m. trying to find a way to fix this and I've given up hope.

3G stuck in recovery mode ...
During the firmware update to version 3.1 yesterday on my iPhone 3G, the update crashed, and ended up in recovery mode. I've tried Restore and Update multiple times, with no success. I've followed the suggestions of the support document, including removing the old ipsw files, after which iTunes downloads the latest version of the software once again, but still encounters an "unknown error." I've also completely uninstalled iTunes (along with the mobile support files per the support documents suggestions), reinstalled iTunes, and have encountered the same problem. I've gotten 3 error codes during this process consistently, and they are 1611, 2006, and 2009. Any suggestions as to how to proceed? I'd rather, if possible, fix this from home rather than taking a 2 hour trek to an Apple store. Does anyone have specific information as to what these individual error codes mean? Thanks in advance for your help.

iPhone 3G apps crash on startup and ...
I have found that when starting up some apps on my new iPhone (important: doesn't matter which apps) that they fail to start up and crash back to the iPhone 'desktop'. When this happens, try as I might, they almost ALL seem to do this, until finally the iPhone takes it upon itself to restart (which takes longer than a normal restart. However, after the restart, the apps work again! This sometimes happens after the iPhone has been 'asleep' for a while, but not always. It's as if just opening new apps is too much for it, or that other processes going on in the iPhone are crashing with the apps.
Anybody else having this?
(I have other issues with this new phone here in the UK - see my other posts).

I've noticed when using applications, email, iPod, browser, returning to where i left. The last email message I read 2 days ago is the first thing viewed when going to email. A shutdown and re-start cleared the phone problem. So I'm thinking
memory is being tied up.....

Unwanted screen rotation with 3.0 ...
Ever since installing 3.0 I've had the following problem with both mail and safari: the screen rotates into landscape view too easily (i.e. when I slightly move the phone), and then it's practically impossible to get the screen to rotate back. Anyone else having this issue?

OK So I try to turn on my iPhone 3G and all I see is a blank white screen, I wait for about 2 minutes and the screen is still white. I can receive calls and can hear all the familiar sounds i.e. unlocking. But the screen is solid white. I have tried restoring it and nothing has improved. HELP?

Hi i have a 3.0 iphone 3G and have only just noticed this problem.
While in sleep mode, Ive noticed that when i recieve a phone call my phone does not ring or vibrate i have checked the settings and everything is correct, the silent switch on the side is not on.
Although when it is connected to my laptop via usb it rings.
I have tried restoring and resetting and the same problem occurs.
Does anyone have a solution?

Anyone else having trouble making phone calls after the 3.1 update? I keep trying to make a call and it says calling but nothing happens. The only way I can get a call to go through is to turn off phone and restart it. But even turning the phone off has become weird as half way through the shut down process it starts flashing the main screen with the clock and my background pic (not the home screen). Also after charging my battery it shows only half charged until I restart the phone. Once restarted everything seems to work fine... for awhile, then I'm back to the same issue.

Apple Update - USB Controllers - My ...
The other day I installed 3.1. The following day I hooked up my phone to my PC via the USB, like I always have and it wouldnt read my phone - Nothing - I plugged it into a different PC and it did fine. I then plugged in other devices to the USSB ports and they worked fine.
I then proceeded to do a system restore (for my whole PC) and picked a point before the 3.1 update. After all was finished, I hooked up iPhone and it was fine. I then uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes (an earlier version). Hooked up phone and it was fine. iTunes wanted to update but I did not do it. I come in today and same problem. My USB will not pick up my iPhone. I am going to do another system restore.
When I picked a point of restore I noticed on the 16th I had to installs:
Install: Device Driver Package and Install: Apple Inc., USB Controllers.
I am assuming this is what is messing things up for me but now I am clueless on where to go from here - I can not system restore my computer daily.
This is crazy. Is there someone at Apple that can be notified about this issue.
I am sorry but this is so crazy - i see all the problems people have after updates and wonder *** are they doing?

I then uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes (an earlier version). Hooked up phone and it was fine. iTunes wanted to update but I did not do it. I come in today and same problem. My USB will not pick up my iPhone. I am going to do another system restore.
When I picked a point of restore I noticed on the 16th I had to installs:
Install: Device Driver Package and Install: Apple Inc., USB Controllers.
I am assuming this is what is messing things up for me but now I am clueless on where to go from here - I can not system restore my computer daily.
This is crazy. Is there someone at Apple that can be notified about this issue.
I am sorry but this is so crazy - i see all the problems people have after updates and wonder *** are they doing?
